Not all crowns are made the same. Carefull tooth preparation by a Specialist, the skill of the Ceramist making the crowns, and the quality of the materials used, will all combine to create either an ordinary or an exceptional outcome. Poorly made and cemented crowns will not only look ordinary and unnatural, but they may also have porosities and craze-lines in them which will lead to early failure. They may also become decayed beneath if they are poorly or incorrectly adhered to the tooth.
The case example below shows the effect that poorly made porcelain crowns can have on a smile. This lady sought treatment to improve her smile, and had "low cost" crowns made for her front six teeth. When she came to our practice, she did not like her appearance and said that she tried not to smile for photographs.
The post-treatment photos demonstrate just how nice and natural a smile can look, when perfectly formed crowns are correctly placed. At Brisbane Prosthodontics, we take time and great care to ensure that we achieve the result our patients are seeking. We do not rush treatment, and we do not use cheaper, low cost crowns or products. This ensures that the best results are always achieved.
These crowns were provided at a "low cost" clinic, and sadly, the crowns speak for themselves.
Not only were the cheap crowns poorly shaped, they also were made in one flat colour.
The difference between the previous quick & cheap treatment, and these customised, quality porcelain crowns is evident in these final photos.
The final result of these high quality crowns is a much more natural smile.
