Whitening of one individual tooth may be required if that tooth has had root canal treatment. Once the nerve has died, it is not unusual for the root and crown of a tooth to darken - even if root canal treatment is performed.
The treatment for such situations can be very simple if internal whitening is able to remove the discolourations.
This young girl was still in her teens when the previoulsy injured tooth became dark. Even though root canal treatment was performed, her tooth became grey in colour. It was very noticable in her smile.
The grey colour was very evident, especially compared to the rest of her otherwise light, bright teeth
The tooth was treated with internal (non-vital) whitening, and then the old, stained composite filling was reshaped and polished, to enhance the final result.
Her final smile was beautiful after the blemish of the dark tooth was so simply treated. The next stage of treatment would be to replace the old composite in the bottom half of the tooth.
