A single tooth implant is a safe and long term solution for replacing a single missing tooth. The advantage of a single tooth implant over other treatment options is that it is not a removable appliance and it does not involve drilling into or modifying the adjacent teeth.
Below are three different cases to demonstrate what is possible with a single tooth implant restoration
This young lady was missing her right lateral incisor, and had a small bonded bridge in its place. The Bridge had become unsightly in her smile
Whilst the right lateral incisor was missing, the left lateral incisor was small and had been built up with a composite veneer. Like the bonded bridge, this veneer was now also old and unsightly. She chose to have both teeth treated
The old bonded bridge was removed and then the implant was placed into this site
A non-metal abutment was used to enhance the aesthetics, and an all-ceramic crown was made
In a simple procedure that does not even require anaesthetic, the healing abutment is unscrewed and gently lifted off and the restorative abutment (white) is seated in its place. The screw is then secured
The all-ceramic crown is fitted over the restorative abutment, and on the patient's left side, a new porcelain veneer was used to replace the old composite veneer, to complete the final aesthetic outcome
The final photograph shows the case approximately 3 months later. The overall aesthetic result is beautiful, and the implant (and new veneer) are perfectly functional

This young man was hoping to have implant treatment for his missing left central incisor. His tooth had been extracted many years prior, and he had been fitted with a denture. He was looking for a more permanent and aesthetic solution for his missing tooth
This photograph shows the healing abutment in place. This stage can take 2-4 months, and the young man wore his partial denture during this time, so he was never without a front tooth
The final restorative abutment was made and fitted. A zirconia (non-metal) abutment was chosen to improve the aesthetic outcome
The final crown was cemented over the abutment, completing the treatment. This photograph was taken moments later and the gums still appear a little red. In a few weeks, the gums will return to normal colour and form, and the aesthetic result will improve even further

This young lady had an old crown on a tooth that she injured when she was in her teens. The root finally fractured, the crown began to wobble and the tooth was not able to be treated. It had to be removed
After carefull extraction of the tooth, and some soft tissue and bone grafting, the fully healed site shows little resorbtion, and is ready for implant placement
At no time was the patient without a tooth. This is a photograph of her partial denture which she wore as an interim prosthesis, whilst the implant treatment progressed
This treatment took approximately 9 months to complete, but the implant and its underlying abutment are almost impossible to detect when compared to the adjacent natural teeth. The treatment provided a beautiful and functional new tooth for this patient
